Equipment for the Home

A disabled person may need a lot of expensive equipment and extensive changes to their homes i.e. a shower instead of a bath. Please do not spend your own money until you have spoken to your occupational therapy department and have had an assessment of your needs. They can make your life easier and safer by providing small equipment for making everyday tasks such as preparing foods and managing your personal care. Larger equipment can also be provided such as lifts, hoists, ramps and more complex housing adaptions according to your needs. Depending on your financial circumstances you may be asked to contribute to costs.

Buying Your Own Equipment

Over the last few years many shops have opened selling equipment for the disabled and the elderly. Not all these shops are totally reliable or trustworthy our best advice is to shop around to find the best prices and talk to other people. If there is a shop or service in the area that is not doing it's best for people it soon gets known. At DIAL we have a huge database of equipment with lists of manufacturers and prices. So if you would like help on equipment contact us, we can help.

Loaning Equipment

If your need for equipment is going to be short-term you can hire equipment. Even stair lifts can be rented, but at a price. The red cross are probably best known of the hire services, they loan out quite a lot of different equipment i.e. commodes, toilet seats, walking aids, and wheelchairs. DIAL also has a wheelchair loan service, please contact us for more information.

If you are thinking of buying a piece of equipment but you can't decide if you will really make good use of it, why not hire it for a month, it may save you money in the long run.

If you require any information on loaning equipment please contact us, we can help.
