A FEW QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT DISABLEMENT INFORMATION AND ADVICE LINES What is Dial?A free, impartial and confidential service of information,advice and in some cases practical help provided by people with direct personal experience of disability. Aims and ObjectivesDial Kent's aim is to provide a free, impartial and confidential service of up-to-date information and advice to disabled people in Kent. The service is run entirely by volunteers, many of whom are disabled themselves. We have a great deal of information covering a wide variety of subjects relating to all aspects of disability. We have been awarded the Community Legal Services Quality Mark and appear in their Directory.We have also been awarded the Dial UK Quality Mark. Dial UK is the national co-ordinating group for the network of advice centres for disabled people. Who can use it?Anyone with a query or problem connected with any aspect of disability; for instance:
How is it available?By telephone, letter, or by personal visit. Telephone queries are dealt with directly, wherever possible or appropriate, backed up by documentary information in some cases. What kind of information is available?All the main publications in the field, e.g. books,magazines,papers, government publications, are examined and all the relevant information noted and filed. This forms the documentary background to current awareness of the service. A library of books relating to disability problems is available, please ring for further information. What kind of enquiry can be answered?
DIAL also offers a Wheelchair loan service, which is free of charge, but we do ask for a donation. Referral to other servicesSome problems such as tribunal work may fall outside the expertise of Dial Kent. In such cases an appropriate referral can be arranged. Dial is a free service, but we recommend that you check about any possible cost if we refer you to another agency. Who pays for Dial?Dial is a charity staffed entirely by volunteers . We receive a grant from social services, but there is always a short fall between what we are given and what we need to continue our service.. If you would like to make a donation it would be very gratefully accepted. |
